- A floor drain backing up is usually a sign that something is wrong in your plumbing system. These drains are designed to carry away excess water from areas like basements, laundry rooms, and garages, but when water starts coming back up instead of flowing out, it indicates a blockage or other issue.
- One common cause is a clogged drain line. Dirt, hair, soap residue, grease, or other debris can build up inside the pipes, restricting water flow. If the clog is located further down in the main sewer line, you may notice backups in multiple drains around your home. Tree roots can also invade underground pipes, causing blockages and backups.
